Freo folk who regularly drive east on South Street will have been wondering exactly what’s been happening at the Kardinya Park Shopping Centre over the past few years, and when the building works might be completed. Well, here’s the answer!
Kardinya Park Shopping Centre, one of Perth’s most significant retail redevelopment projects, has reached a new milestone with the completion of Stage 2 – marking major progress in the masterplan to transform the sub-regional shopping centre into a leading mixed-use precinct for Perth’s southern suburbs.
The $65m second stage, completed by Focus Building Company and the Dowsing Group, will be formally opened by the Deputy Premier of Western Australia Hon Rita Saffiotti, MLA at an official ceremony today, Wednesday 3 December at 11am – 12pm near Coles.
Approved in 2023 and designed by Hames Sharley Architects, whose original 1999 – 2000 plans shaped the modern centre.
The redevelopment is being delivered across four stages:
*Stage 1 (Completed 2023): Construction of a new fuel station and an access road that will connect the centre directly to North Lake Road via the Stage 2 carpark.
*Stage 2 (Completed 2025): Introduction of a signalised entry from South Street leading to a three-level carpark with 550 bays, including 360 undercover. This stage also delivered a new wellness precinct with health and medical services, an expanded fresh food and dining offers, and a modern full line Coles supermarket now spanning 3,790m².
*Stage 3 (Future): Hospitality-led expansion with additional convenience retail.
*Stage 4 (Future): Development of a childcare centre and up to eight storeys of residential apartments.
