18 Months On – Interview with Mayor of Fremantle, Hannah Fitzhardinge

It’s coming up 18 months since Hannah Fitzhardinge was elected Mayor of Fremantle. How time flies!

Back then, the Walyalup Civic Centre and Walyalup Koort were still in the final stages of completion and soon to open, and FOMO was still a relatively new thing – and Covid regulations were still very much part of our daily lives.

We caught up with the new Mayor soon after her installation as Mayor and recorded a podcast interview with her about what her first 100 days might look like.

Since then she’s had a busy time of it.

Our editor, Michael Barker, was fortunate to catch up with Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge again this week, in her pleasant Mayoral office in Walyalup Civic Centre overlooking FOMO in the centre of Walyalup Koort, not a Covid mask in sight, to discuss how things have progressed over the past 18 months and what lies ahead.

As you’ll hear when you put your earbuds in, lie back and listen to the podcast, we cover many topics, ranging from the Future of Freo, bringing even more residents into the centre of Freo, City planning and density done well, JDAPs and developers, University of Notre Dame in Freo, student housing initiatives, parking in Freo, the South Beach parking changes, future economy options for Fremantle, the importance of the North Quay/Port Beach Precinct planning, the 2029 WA Bicentennial, The Voice, and Freo’s current ‘Golden Window’ of opportunity.
