Submissions now open for the ‘State collection’ – an exhibition of original artworks by the West Australian public.
If you like to draw, sketch or paint you’re invited to submit an artwork on white A4 paper to feature in this unique exhibition, exploring West Australian’s distinct sense of place – in whatever way you imagine it. Deposit boxes will be positioned around Fremantle and Perth from October 9-29 (see below).
The exhibition is free and open to all, and will also feature anonymous works from some of WA’s most acclaimed and collectable artists, as well as many WA identities.
All works will be available to purchase at the Exhibition Closing Party & Art Market, for $20 each. Pick up a truly unique artwork and your contribution will go to benefit the CAN (Community Arts Network), to support arts projects with diverse WA communities.
Submissions open Monday 9 October and close Sunday 29 October.
The State Collection creator Julian Tompkin says: “It’s genuinely thrilling to be back with this event. We were thoroughly floored by the response to the exhibition’s debut in 2016 and the inspired quality of the works. West Australians truly embraced the concept and the spirit of the exhibition, and we are excited to see what they deliver in 2017.
“The State Collection invites a wider cultural dialogue about the place of art in our lives,” he adds, “and its significance in both investigating and helping to define who we are as West Australians.”
CAN’s General Manager June Moorhouse adds: “It’s great to be a part of this event once again, and we so appreciate the support it offers CAN in its work with communities across WA. The State Collection is a chance for everyone to tap into the artist within and share that for a greater good.”
Deposit boxes can be found at: PS Art Space, Fremantle Arts Centre and Moores Building of Contemporary Art. Artworks can also be submitted at CAN @ King Street Arts Centre reception and City of Fremantle Town Hall administration.
