Local composers Josh Hogan and Ned Beckley win every category they were up for at the Screen Music Awards
A small Fremantle studio has pulled off a clean sweep at Australia’s national awards for screen music.
Josh Hogan and Ned Beckley, who run Envelope Audio in Fremantle, won four awards at the 2026 Screen Music Awards in Brisbane last Wednesday for their music for Tales from Outer Suburbia, the ABC animated series based on the book by Perth author Shaun Tan.
Here are some great pics from the night taken by Cassidy Cloupet.

The guys were nominated in four categories and won all four: best music for children’s programming, best television theme, best soundtrack album, and best original song for “Nothing Stays the Same”, which Josh wrote with his sister, singer Joni Hogan, and Ned.
The Screen Music Awards are run by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers and are the main national prize for music written for film and television. Josh, who lives in Coolbellup, also won the same category last year with Perth composer Iain Grandage. Four awards in one night is understood to be a first for the awards, and with Perth composer Nicholas Gardiner winning the short film category, five of the sixteen national awards came home to WA.
“We’ve been in Fremantle for over two decades, and a lot of what you hear on the show was made in here in Fremantle,” Josh said. “Shaun told us at the start, the weirder the better, and we took him at his word.”
“WA composers won five of the sixteen national awards this year,” Ned said. “We’d like that to be a normal thing for a WA production rather than a surprise.”
Tales from Outer Suburbia follows two kids who move to the suburbs with their mum and find their new neighbourhood is not what it seems. It premiered on ABC iview on New Year’s Day and is also screening in the United States. The series was co-produced in Perth with Siamese, with support from Screenwest and Lotterywest.

Envelope Audio’s other work includes the sound for First Lights at the Fremantle Biennale, the Audible podcast The Missed, and Albany Is, the oral history app launched this year for Albany’s bicentenary.
The soundtrack album is available on all streaming platforms, and the series is on ABC iview.
