Don’t miss our great podcast interview with Rosslyn de Souza that you’ll find at the very end of this post!
Rosslyn de Souza – known to many as Ros or Rossie – is so well known around Freo that she really needs little introduction.

In 2025, she was honoured as the City of Fremantle Citizen of the Year for her community work with The Arts.
Her work on the Freo Street Gallery has been a big part of that community work. In a word, or two, Beauty Matters. Here’s Rossie cleaning one of her Windows!

Similarly her reclamation of Woodson’s Arcade from an unhealthy sort of place to a street level art gallery is another.
In recent times, Rossie has been leading a strong campaign to rid Fremantle of so called ‘Convenience Stores’ that have proliferated in the City in recent times. She calls them ‘Con Stores’. Here’s an example of the most recent one in Wray Avenue, Fremantle.

And she has plans afoot for improving the accomodation options available for the homeless around Fremantle.
Our Editor, Michael Barker, was pleased to meet up with Rosslyn de Souza this week to make the podcast you’ll find below where we discuss all of the above! Rossie is typically direct in conveying her views and ideas. And she loves to get stuck in and just do things. She truly is a modern day Warrior! No wonder she was recognised as the 2025 Fremantle Citizen of the Year!
