Reach Remote 2 – a sleek new chapter in offshore innovation

Soon leaving for Onslow to likely target the Scarborough gas field

Reach Subsea’s Reach Remote 2 is a 23.9-metre-long Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) — a state-of-the-art platform designed to perform complex subsea operations without a crew onboard. It’s currently berthed at Henderson, preparing to head northwest for a campaign with Woodside Energy, likely targeting the Scarborough gas field.

Here’s a great shot of her off Henderson, just south of Fremantle, earlier this week – with Garden Island as a backdrop – as captured by ardent ship spotter Tim Slater.

And here’s a gallery of more of Tim’s pics of her in other poses!

Key Features & Capabilities

• Hull-mounted survey sensors for high-resolution seabed mapping

• A work-class electric ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) for underwater inspections and interventions

• Operates autonomously or remotely, reducing offshore personnel risks and costs

• Uses gWatch technology — a Norwegian-developed system that monitors reservoir changes via time-lapse gravity and seafloor deformation.

Why It Matters

• Environmental edge: Lower emissions and fuel use compared to traditional crewed vessels

• Safety boost: Minimizes human exposure to offshore hazards

• Data precision: Enhances reservoir modelling and production forecasting

Next Stop: Onslow

Once it departs Henderson, Reach Remote 2 will operate out of OMSB’s Beadon Creek facility in Onslow, where it will receive shoreside support — from tie-ups and crew changes to control centre operations.
