Origin – Movie Review

I saw a preview of Origin yesterday.

An exclusive season starts on 4 April at Luna Leederville.

What an amazing movie, based on the book ‘Caste:the origins of our discontents’ by Isabel Wilkerson. The thought provoking images and scenes shocked me to the core and deeply moved me. I’m still unpacking the layers.

Drawn from the personal life of African American author, Isabel Wilkinson, Origin explores the race and caste systems in the Jim Crow South of the US, Nazi Germany, and post-independence India.

The movie makes you face some ugly and uncomfortable truths.

It’s an important and must see movie.

Bravo to film writer and director Ava Duvernay and Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor; and, indeed, the entire cast and crew.

Rating? 9/10
