The Wednesday Poem

Fremantle Shipping News is pleased to bring you The Wednesday Poem.

In this feature we post poems by Freo and Freo-connected poets and those who may not call themselves poets but love writing poetry or having a go!

Today, we are pleased to bring you The Hum Hearers by Shey Marque.

Shey Marque is a former medical scientist and currently serves on the Board of Writing WA. She has written four collections of poetry and published over a hundred individual poems in literary journals. Her poetry has been choreographed for contemporary dance and made into short poetry film. ‘The Hum Hearers’ is the title poem from her collection about cellular memory and the inheritance of trauma, published with UWAP in 2025. The Hum Hearers collection won the Wesley Michel Wright Prize 2025, was a finalist for the Kenneth Slessor Prize 2026 and the Dorothy Hewett Award 2023, and is available from the UWAP website The Hum Hearers – UWA Publishing
