Freo’s High Line? The High Street Circus and Canyon Trail

Freo may not have the exact equivalent of New York City’s now famous High Line to walk along, but we do have a very well kept secret you can explore up hill and down canyon – The High Street Circus and Canyon Trail, as we’ve dubbed it!

Now a ‘Circus’ is just a fancy English word for a roundabout. Think Piccadilly Circus in London.

A canyon we are all familiar with – the Grand Canyon immediately comes to mind.

Here’s an introduction to the Trail.

When High Street was turned into a major road 18 months ago east of the roundabout, effectively the western extension of Leach Highway, the road, roundabout and associated works did not meet with all Freo folk’s approval. Still doesn’t!

But as they say, ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’, and perhaps The High Street Circus and Canyon Trail is it!

We can envisage tourists and visitors to Walyalup Freo at any time, and families on weekends, flocking by foot, bicycle or vehicle to near where Holland and Forrest Streets meet the colourful walls of the Stirling Highway near Marmion Street, and discovering the walk trails and the underpass ‘canyons’ for themselves.

Here’s some more of what you’ll be treated to!
