Interview with Debra Rule – Community Banker

Many Freo folk will know Debra Rule because of her involvement in the establishment and continued operation of the Fremantle Community Bank. But Debra’s involvement with Freo goes way back before the Fremantle Community Bank. Bendigo Bank was established. It started when she arrived in Freo from Tasmania as a 5 year old.

Debra attended primary school and high school in the Freo area and, years later, returned to her old high school – South Fremantle Senior High School – as a teacher librarian before then embarking on a career in strategic information and change management.

But before all that, as Debra tells in the podcast below, she had an array of fascinating jobs in old Freo and was also a member of the South Freo Bulldogs Cheer Squad in the day. And here’s a pic to prove it! (Which one’s Debra, you ask. Spoiler alert – top right.)

And here’s Debra Rule today in the Shipping News’ podcast studio in Old Customs House in the West End of Fremantle.

As the rest of her story, and how Debra Rule came to become a strategic information and change management professional, and how Fremantle Community Bank came to be, you’ll have to listen to the podcast Debra made with our Editor, Michael Barker, this week.

We should add that, quite unconvincingly, Debra also says she is ‘trying to retire’.
