Silver Dawn – Here Today, Gone Tonight!

Silver Dawn, a Silversea sister cruise ship of Silver Muse and Silver Moon (both previous visitors to Fremantle), quietly slid into Freo just before 6 o’clock this morning. Probably she was so quiet on account of not wanting to wake the good Burghers of Fremantle enjoying their Saturday morning sleep-ins!

Here’s a nice Silversea photograph of her.

Silver Dawn is the third ship in the Silversea Muse-class series, a sister ship, as we say, to Silversea’s Silver Muse (built in 2017 and who visited Freo in March 2019 and again in December 2020) and Silver Moon (delivered in 2020 and who visited Freo even more recently in February just gone.)

Silver Dawn was constructed at the Fincantieri shipyard at Sestri Ponente in Genoa, Italy. Silversea placed the contract with Fincantieri — worth more than US$382 million — in May 2018.

She was built in 2021 and carries IMO number 9857937, sailing under the Bahamas flag and registered in Nassau. At 40,855 gross tons, she can carry up to 596 passengers across 298 all-suite cabins. She often has 408 crew members on board, giving a ratio of roughly 2 passengers per crew member — a hallmark of ultra-luxury cruising.

Due to the Covid pandemic, Silversea postponed Silver Dawn’s inauguration to 2022. Her maiden voyage took place on 18 March 2022 — a 14-day eastbound transatlantic crossing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Lisbon, Portugal. She was officially christened in Lisbon in March 2022, and first sailed seriously — from Lisbon to Barcelona — on 1 April 2022, making her the tenth ship in the Silversea fleet.

She was built with environmental credentials in mind, like her sister ships, incorporating the Green Star 3 Design certificate, assigned to ships designed and equipped to prevent pollution, along with an Open Loop Exhaust Gas Cleaning System and full LED lighting.

After her inaugural voyage in April 2022, Silver Dawn sailed in the Mediterranean until November 2022, then crossed the Atlantic to cover the Canary Islands, the Caribbean, and Central America. She has since sailed extensively worldwide, including transatlantic crossings, the Caribbean, South America, and Asia.

In 2025, she undertook Silversea’s world cruise “Controtempo,” spanning 59 destinations across 30 countries. Her current voyage for 2026, is the current 141-day world cruise titled “The Curious and the Sea,” running from Fort Lauderdale from to Lisbon, via Freo.

Having arrived this morning, Silver Dawn is scheduled to depart Fremantle tonight at 9.30 pm tonight. Should be quite a sight!

This is part of a 16-night voyage from Fremantle to Singapore, sailing as a segment of “The Curious and the Sea” World Cruise. This voyage features, notably, a first for a Silversea World Cruise: a semi-circumnavigation of Australia.

Her first Aussie port on this World Cruise was Hobart. Before arriving in Fremantle she has visited Melbourne, Adelaide and Kangaroo Island. After departing Fremantle, she spends two days at sea before calling at Geraldton, then visits the Ningaloo Reef at Exmouth, before heading to Broome and Darwin. She then crosses the Timor Sea to Lombok and Bali, before arriving in Singapore on 30 March 30.

Silver Dawn offers eight dining options, including the signature SALT (Sea and Land Taste) Kitchen, a destination-inspired restaurant featuring regional specialties paired with over 160 regional wines. All accommodations are all-suite, most with private verandas, and every guest receives personalised butler service. The all-inclusive fare covers champagne, selected wines and premium spirits, unlimited Wi-Fi, 24-hour room service, and onboard gratuities.

She’s consistently well-reviewed — passengers praise the food, staff, and intimate atmosphere of a ship small enough to feel personal but large enough to offer genuine variety.

Wonder if there are any free cabins?!
