Well, as we reported yesterday, on Day 1 there seemed to be confusion amongst drivers about what to do when they found themselves in the Bus Only lane travelling east on Canning Highway and coming onto the red paved road surface with only the the B traffic lights at Stirling Highway ahead of them.
Today, however, it seemed some drivers were less confused and more intent on seizing on an opportunity to proceed straight through the B only section as if they were bus drivers!
Here’s my 9 am pic of things.

As I sat in the right only lane waiting for the lights to turn green for me to go south on Stirling Highway, and with a long lane of vehicles behind me all waiting to do the same, the Bus Only lane was entirely empty, for a while. I began the think that yesterday’s educational article about the Bus Only lane had had an effect and FSN would probably be nominated for an important Main Roads WA Award. But no. Before I knew it three vehicles lined up on the red section as though they were buses. And when the B red light turned to B green, away they went, straight through the intersection. Perhaps they got tired of waiting in the right turning vehicles queue and decided not to wait any longer.
Which gets me wondering: will the traffic engineers at Main Roads WA now hoist the white flag and let all traffic straight through? Is it actually a bother? Can’t say I saw any buses being inconvenienced.
