Ahoy, me hearties! Step into the World of Tall Ships

Roll up, roll up, you landlubbers and step onboard the Mexican Navy Tall Ship Buque Escuela Cuauhtemoc in Fremantle Harbour’s Victoria Quay, C wharf when she arrives from Indonesia this Wednesday, 18 September 2024.

Here’s a great pic, with thanks to Freo Ports, of her arrival way back on 6 June 2006.

Fremantle will welcome Buque Escuela Cuauhtemoc during her 42nd training cruise. Along the way she is visiting Australia and New Zealand.

Her global goodwill voyage is taking 222 days and covering 25,000 nautical miles, and visiting 13 ports along the way. Captain (Navy) Victor Hugo Molina Perez will be at the helm along with 261-crew.

Here’s her 2024 sailing itinerary.

You’ll see she’s arriving in Freo from Indonesia.

Cuauhtemoc has a long and proud history of training Mexican Sailors and it’s a right of passage for Mexican Navy personnel. This fabulous tall ship is internationally recognised – thanks to her participation in important festivities and maritime events.

She is a three times winner of the Boston Teapot Cup; Cutty Sark Trophy twice; and first overall in the 2012 Tall Ship Races, along with numerous other wins and recognitions for elegant presentation.

She is the last of four sister ships built by the Naval Shipyards in Bilbao, Spain in 1982. Over her 42 years of service, she has sailed over 700,000km.

She sails into Fremantle on Wednesday.

You won’t want to miss her arrival. When she last visited in 2006, it was a spectacular occasion, with her crew lining the yard and yardarms.

After visiting Fremantle, she heads to Melbourne and then onto Sydney.

During her visit, she will be open to the public for free visits.

Keep an eye on Freo Ports Public Page for arrival details closer to the date.
