Freo College leads the way!

Fremantle College has just been named a finalist in the WA Education Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. This recognition highlights the remarkable journey of the College, which opened its doors to students from Years 7 to 12 in 2018. Since then, Freo College has rapidly become a leader in education, achieving impressive academic outcomes and student success.

At the heart of this success is the Fremantle College Excellence in Teaching and Learning Framework. Staff are provided with training and coaching to be highly skilled practitioners. A key focus of the college is experiential learning, where students are given the opportunity to explore concepts in real-word situations. Every student receives the support required to be successful in their chosen pathway – from Gifted and Talented and Academic Excellence to academically at-risk students.

The results speak for themselves:
WACE Achievement Rates: A 25% increase in WACE achievement, now standing at 97%.
OLNA Improvement: A 14% improvement, with a 97% success rate.
Median ATAR Scores: A significant 22-point increase, bringing the median ATAR to 85.

The college’s motto of Strength, Respect, Success has guided its achievements in teaching and learning. Collaborative efforts with the community and the implementation of best practices have played a crucial role in driving these outcomes.

In addition to academic success, the school has experienced a 36% surge in enrolments, reflecting growing confidence in its programs. The Gifted and Talented Program, in particular, has seen a staggering 400% increase in applications, further underscoring Fremantle College’s commitment to fostering an environment where every student can flourish and achieve their individual goals.
