The Grammys, Tassie & Songs for Freedom Concert – Podcast with Lucky Oceans

Everyone around Freo knows Lucky Oceans. Freo’s Mr Music in so many ways.

In his youth, like half a hundred years ago, Lucky was a multi instrumentalist with the Emmy Award winning country swing band, Asleep at the Wheel in the good old US of A.

Well, would you believe it, Lucky and his band mates were recently nominated for a Grammy again, 50 years on from their formation, at the recent 2023 Grammy Awards in LA.

The nomination was in the Best Americana Performance category where the nominees were –
* “Silver Moon [A Tribute To Michael Nesmith]” by Eric Alexandrakis
* “There You Go Again” by Asleep At The Wheel Featuring Lyle Lovett
* “The Message” by Blind Boys Of Alabama Featuring Black Violin
* “You And Me On The Rock” by Brandi Carlile Featuring Lucius
* “Made Up Mind” by Bonnie Raitt

The Asleep at the Wheel song was from the band’s very well received album, Half a Hundred Years.

Lucky found his way to LA for the big Grammy Awards ceremony. Asleep at the Wheel didn’t take home the chocolates – the great Bonnie Raitt did that and won Song of the Year to boot- but they had lots of fun in the process.

Here’s Lucky at the Grammys.

Our editor, Michael Barker, caught up with Lucky Oceans this week to record this podcast where we debrief on the Grammys, what Lucky has been up to recently in Tasmania with bigHart, and the big, free Songs for Freedom concert this Sunday night 5 March 2023, on the banks of the Derbarl Yerrigan at Dyoondalup Point Walter Reserve, Bicton, that you won’t want to miss.
