We hear and talk a lot about homelessness, so here’s a State Government initiative just south of Fremantle, at Rockingham, that deserves mention.
People experiencing homelessness in Rockingham and surrounding areas from today, 2 November, have access to daytime case management services, with local provider The Crew.

The service forms part of the State Government’s $2.6 million investment in the Rockingham Safe Night Space initiative and is intended to connect people sleeping rough with health, mental health, housing and other support services.
The Crew, a long-established Rockingham organisation, will provide tailored assistance aimed at helping people navigate pathways to housing and other essential services.
The daytime support service complements the planned Rockingham Safe Night Space, which is expected to provide overnight shelter for up to 30 people experiencing homelessness each night. The service will operate using a low-barrier, trauma-informed approach designed to engage people who may struggle to access more traditional accommodation options.
The State Government says the initiative is part of its broader strategy of delivering local, place-based responses to homelessness across Western Australia.
Homelessness Minister Matthew Swinbourn said The Crew had extensive experience working with vulnerable people in the Rockingham community.
“People experiencing homelessness deserve trauma-informed, local responses that are tailored to their needs,” Mr Swinbourn said.
“The Cook Government remains committed to investing in practical, place-based responses to homelessness and ensuring Western Australians doing it tough are connected to the supports they need.”
The announcement follows other homelessness initiatives, including the rollout of Booraka Danjoo outreach services across Perth and the development of Mandurah Common Ground, a 50-unit supportive housing project expected to be completed later this year.
