Here’s something Freo community gardening groups will be really interested to pursue, just announced by our local Freo MP, and Minister for Community Services, Simone McGurk.
The key things to note are that –
*Applications are now open for the 2020-21 Community Gardens Grants Program.
*Grants of up to $10,000 are available for community garden projects led by Western Australian community organisations and local governments.
*Grant applications close on December 3, 2020.
*Green thumb community organisations and local governments are being encouraged to apply for grants of up to $10,000 through the State Government’s Community Gardens Grants Program.
The Community Gardens Grants Program, facilitated by the Department of Communities, supports the establishment and further development of community gardens throughout Western Australia.
The Minister hopes the grants will encourage people to actively participate in community life, and support the development of sustainable and edible community gardens across WA, and get all the personal and community benefits of doing so.
For further details on eligibility and assessment criteria for the program, visit the grants page on the Department of Communities’ website.
The Minister, Simone McGurk said on announcing the grants:
“Community gardening is a unique experience that brings community members together to engage collaboratively for a common purpose.
“Communities thrive when activities are shared, and projects funded through the Community Gardens Grants Program are a great way for people to give back to their local community.
“The grants are available across Western Australia and can be used to fund the planning, design and implementation of community garden projects.
“Applicants are encouraged to consider how their project supports the State Government’s COVID-19 recovery efforts.”
