What’s open and what’s not open – Update on City of Freo services

The City of Fremantle are slowly opening up services, the accent being on ‘slowly’.
Here’s the latest from the City.

Playspaces, skateparks and public facilities

  • All playspaces and skateparks are closed until further notice
  • All public toilets are now open. An enhanced cleaning regime is now in place
  • All public showers are now open. An enhanced cleaning regime is now in place
  • All barbecues are now open. An enhanced cleaning regime is now in place
  • All picnic shelters are now open
  • All water fountains are now open. An enhanced cleaning regime is now in place
  • The South Beach pontoon has been removed

Arts and culture

  • Fremantle International Street Arts Festival – Cancelled until further notice
  • Fremantle Heritage Festival – Cancelled until further notice
  • Fremantle Festival: 10 Nights in Port – Cancelled until further notice
  • Moores Building of Contemporary Art Galleries – Now in process of reopening on Fridays and weekends. Phone them to check and to book.
  • Moore and Moore Cafe – Closed until further notice
  • Fremantle Arts Centre – Closed until further notice (including the grounds and Canvas Café)
  • Fremantle Arts Centre Learning Courses – Cancelled until further notice
  • Found (shop) at Fremantle Arts Centre – Closed until further notice
  • Sunday Music Series – Cancelled until further notice
  • Revealed Art Market – Cancelled until further notice
  • South Lawn Concerts – Postponed

Community facilities

  • Fremantle Leisure Centre – Closed until further notice
  • Samson Recreation Centre – Closed until further notice. Current netball competitions cancelled
  • Volunteering – Business as usual. Neighbour to Neighbour initiative launched to help those in need during the COVID-19 crisis
  • Health and wellbeing – Supporting State Sporting Associations announcements
  • Walyalup Aboriginal Community Centre – Closed until further notice
  • Youth Climate Change Conference – Cancelled until further notice
  • Beach wheelchair – Not available for hire until further notice

Council meetings

  • Committee meetings are temporarily suspended and instead the City are holding two ordinary council meetings a month. Meetings are being held by electronic means. Meetings are held every second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Questions and statements can be submitted to agendasminutes@fremantle.wa.gov.au before 4pm on the day of the meeting. Customer service

  • Administration building – The customer service centre is now open. Opening times will be 8am–5pm to answer queries, process applications and permits and accept EFTPOS payments. You can also continue to send requests online via our request a service portal, email at info@fremantle.wa.gov.au and over the phone on 1300 MY FREO (1300 693 736).
  • For the safety of staff and customers temporary sneeze screens have been installed and hand sanitizers are in place at the front counter and by the visitor sign-in kiosk. Staff and customers will also be asked to maintain physical distancing.

Development approvals

  • All in person duty appointments – Cancelled until further notice
  • Community Information sessions (for significant DA’s) – Cancelled until further notice
  • Design Advisory Committee – Cancelled until further notice. Contact the City of Fremantle
  • Residential pool inspections – May be operating at limited capacity. We encourage pool owners to read the Rules for Pools and Spas – a simple checklist to help you self-assess and reduce the risk of drownings.

Economic development and marketing

  • Business Support Program – Offering advice to local businesses on how they can take advantage of state and federal COVID-19 support measures
  • Marketing – supporting businesses continuing to trade with promotion through visit Fremantle platforms including visitfremantle.com.au, @visitfremantle social media accounts and enewsletter.

Events

  • ANZAC Day – The 2020 traditional services were replaced with Anzac Day Driveways at Dawn 2020.
  • Pioneer’s Luncheon – Cancelled until further notice
  • NAIDOC Opening Event and all week activities – Cancelled until further notice

Facility bookings

  • Fremantle Town Hall – Closed until further notice. Tentative bookings can be rescheduled from October 2020 onward by contacting bookings@fremantle.wa.gov.au
  • Sullivan Hall – Closed. Tentative bookings can be rescheduled from October 2020 onward by contacting bookings@fremantle.wa.gov.au

  • Waste collection – Business as usual.
