This livestock carrier is in Port just now. Interestingly, she’s tied up on the Victoria Quay side. Perhaps because of her size.
She’s reputed to be the biggest purpose-built livestock carrier in the world.
Recently, she was sold by the Wellard shipping company to the Kuwaiti company Al Mawashi Limited, for US $53 m, and will do the Middle East run, it appears, once everything COVID-19 is back to normal. Whenever that will be.
By all accounts the sale made a favourable impression on Wellard’s balance sheet.
Ocean Shearer was built in 2016 (4 years ago) and is currently sailing under the flag of Singapore.
Its carrying capacity is 16110 t DWT and her current draught is reported to be 7.3 meters. Her length overall (LOA) is 189.5 meters and her width is 31.1 meters.
So, she’s not small.
We must keep an eye on her comings and goings as she doesn’t appear in the official public movements list put out by Fremantle Ports.
Livestock trade is still a bit sensitive.
However, it’s hard to hide a vessel this large!
