The Fremantle Harbour Classic Yacht Race is on this Sunday. Take the family to the Port!

“Head on down to Victoria Quay to watch ‘Hot-Shot Sailors and Week-End Warriors’’’, says a man who knows his stuff, Dr Ed Feathers.
The Fremantle Harbour Classic returns this Sunday, 18 October. Watch keelboats from Fremantle Sailing Club and clubs across WA race through Fremantle’s Inner Harbour, in an invitation-only event that starts at 1pm and runs for an hour and a half.

There are 20 entrants this year, and the slowest boat starts first, so the fleet races up to the new Freo Traffic Bridge and back down towards the harbour mouth twice – so the finish gets tight.

It’s a big event for the Port. The Harbour Master closes the Port while the race is on, so the working harbour becomes a racecourse for the afternoon.
The race traces its roots to the first harbour race in 1910, and Fremantle Sailing Club has organised it since 1991. It returned last year for the first time since COVID and this year will be as exciting as ever.
Come on down to Victoria Quay or into Gage Roads and watch racing yachts up very close and personal. You can look right into the boats from the Quay and watch the hot-shot sailors grinding winches and hoisting spinnakers and hear them shout at each other!
Gage Roads Freo Brewery has waterfront views directly across the course. No bookings are needed but get there early and grab a table. Live commentary will take place from Gage Roads verandah.
Victoria Quay is close enough to the action that you can see the sailors’ faces.
Stockland Nara is this year’s Presenting Partner, alongside Club Marine and Gage Roads.
Don’t miss all the action!
