Most of us love the ocean, although some love it more than others. We enjoy being on it or in it – swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing, or maybe even cruising.
Why do Western Australians love cruising so much? Could it have something to do with being in a watery world before we were born, living on the world’s largest island, or loving geography at school? Or maybe it’s watching films about far-flung places? In this year’s blockbuster, The Odyssey, Ulysses and Penelope sailed away into the sunset (creative licence, Christopher Nolan).

This evening just after 5pm, beneath a cloudless blue sky, Coral Geographer sailed away from Fremantle for some Broome-Time with her lucky guests and crew. She is a regular visitor to Freo, as our reports on her disclose.
Coral Expeditions is running 54 WA departures in 2026 and 56 in 2027. There are new six-night Fremantle to Albany and beyond return cruises timed for the wildflower and migrating whale seasons in October; with the Abrolhos and Coral coast itineraries running September to November. Sadly, there are no giant cruise liners visiting Freo this year.
Here is a list of the cruise ships visiting until this year’s end –
*18 October. Crown Princess. 11-day voyage from Sydney
*23 October. Coral Geographer. 6-day Freo to Albany and back
*4 November. Coral Geographer.
*5 December. Noordam. 20-day voyage from Sydney.
*29 December. Viking Orion. 31-day Grand Australian circumnavigation. She’ll be in Freo for the New Year.
