Not surprisingly, Snaps has become something of a legend among his loyal readers for his sometimes very funny, sometimes bitterly acerbic, but always straight from the heart accounts of the trials and tribulations, and this season great successes, of the Dockers.

And now we are pleased to report that Fremantle Press has chosen to honour the moment in the Dockers’ history where they approach Wharfie Time in the Grand Final at the G this coming Saturday, by publishing THE SEASON with SNAPS TRULY.

About the Author, Snaps Truly

What do we really know about him? Was he once a Fremantle fringe player? He likes to hint in his column that might be true, but there are no records to substantiate such a claim.

Is Snaps even his real name? Probably not.

Apparently, there have been sightings in Fremantle down the years – of a dodgy-looking character going around pubs either offering patrons bags of octopus allegedly ‘fresh off the boats’ or most recently seen riding a black BMX bike, that probably wasn’t his, down South Terrace.

But he knows his footy and can sniff the salty breeze of the public mood.

Whoever Snaps is, he presents as someone who might have been, but perhaps never really was. His writing can be oddly lucid and sweet-natured or, as we say, bitterly acerbic.

Too triggered by a twitchy mind to be reliable, but always worth reading.

Mr Truly is represented in polite company by Geoff Hutchison and our Editor, Michael Barker..

And they know barely more about him than all the rest of us do.

Geoff Hutchison

In 2022, Geoff Hutchison hung up his headphones after a long career as an ABC broadcaster. Before that, he was a journalist on the 7.30 Report and a one-time Foreign Correspondent. Geoff is intensely curious and says he has seldom worked a day in his life. Rathe, it has been one of great privilege: talking to people, witnessing extraordinary moments and coming to the understanding that the things we share are far more significant than those that divide us.

Michael Barker

Michael Barker, as readers of the Shipping News know, is the publisher and editor of Fremantle Shipping News, an e-zine all about Fremantle that was launched coming up 10 years ago this April. Before that he was on the bench of the Supreme Court of WA, 2002-2009, the foundation President of the WA State Administrative Tribunal 2005-2008, and a judge of the Federal Court of Australia 2009-2019.
