Moored Exhibition Launch

On Friday 5 June, Moore and Moore Gallery opened its doors to reveal the “Moored” exhibition and Gayle O’Leary was there to see it! Here’s Gayle’s report.

Moored showcases pieces from 11 multidisciplinary local and national artists reflecting upon coastal identity and what Fremantle represents to them.

The night opened with a talk by 2025 community citizen of the year, Rosslyn de Souza, speaking to the importance of art in establishing an identity, which can never truly be replaced by AI.

As Moores Gallery itself describes it:

“The title reflects the deep, unshakable ties our artists have to this city,” says the collective. “Through photography, sculpture, fabric, drawing and paint, we are inviting the community to reflect on their own relationship with Fremantle in a space that has been part of its history for generations.”

The centrepiece of the exhibition is one that is very close to home indeed: a coil and dyed fabric flowing representation of the Fibonacci Sequence by multimedia artist Annette Wiguna. The piece is directly inspired by her tenancy as an artist in the iconic Fremantle Fibonacci Centre at 19 Blinco Street.

The exhibition runs until 21June. Artist talks, live music, and poetry readings will also held during this time and I warmly encourage you to go and admire this beautiful collection!
