Here’s the latest from Main Roads!
We are pleased to bring you the latest report from Main Roads WA as to how traffic is faring in this Week 3 after the Old Freo Traffic Bridge closure on 1 February.
As you read this account, note that High Street is included in the ‘surrounding network’ reference.
Here we go –
- The Stirling Bridge and surrounding network remain highly congested during peak times, with the afternoon peak experiencing heavier congestion than the morning peak.
- Two-way traffic volumes on the existing Stirling Bridge increased by 5% (on last week’s volume) during the morning and afternoon peak periods this week. This represents a 30-35% increase in traffic over the existing Stirling Bridge in both directions during peak times (approximately max. of 9,500 vehicles in two hours). (1) The primary congested movement in morning peak is northbound over Stirling Bridge. (2) In the afternoon peak, the southbound movements on Stirling Highway and Tydeman Road are most affected by delays.
- Main Roads strongly encourages the community to help minimise congestion by using public transport where possible and adjusting travel times to avoid busy peak periods.
- Road users are also reminded to comply with all road signage on the network.
- Regarding: Hampton/Ord: The temporary bollards have been placed further inside the roundabout to allow safe movements for larger vehicles, such as buses, but we understand that some vehicles are driving straight through instead of following the line marking at the roundabout. The Alliance and the City of Fremantle are investigating alternative mitigations which includes kerbing the roundabout to ensure vehicles use it correctly.
