Fab New Penholder Facility Opens

A flash new penholder facility has just been unveiled on Capo D’Orlando Drive, southern Fishing Boat Harbour AND it includes public toilets!

Nearly 3 1/2 years ago now, we reported works would begin by early the next year, that is early 2023, on a $6.2 million project to reclaim land at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour to deliver improved services and pedestrian access in the southern part of the facility.

Here’s our progress report as of 2024, on what was happening then.

It was initially announced that the harbour manager, the Department of Transport, had awarded the works contract to Western Australian based and owned company Advanteering, that would also allow for the future construction of a penholder facility at the harbour.

The contract awarded for these works was to see the existing southern land backed wharf along Capo D’Orlando Drive extended to create a new platform for a future building, which would include penholder bathrooms, laundry facilities and new public toilets.

The works were also to deliver pedestrian improvements with a new dedicated pedestrian path along Capo D’Orlando Drive, services and lighting upgrades and landscaping to improve public amenity and increase safety for users and visitors to the harbour.

Well, the dedicated pedestrian path along Capo D’Orlando Drive was delivered a while ago. And we at the Shipping News just love what they have done, as we reported at the time!

And just now the new penholder facility has been completed, including bathrooms, laundry facilities and new public toilets.

As it happens, the Shipping News was on hand just after the new facility was unveiled. Here’s how it looks. As we say, fab, flash!

Well done to all involved. Love it.

And we are sure the penholders do as well!
