Fremantle Biennale 2025 kicked off last night, launching its SANCTUARY 25 program across Fremantle with immersive art installations and performances.

A large crowd attended the open air event at Manjaree|Bathers Beach despite strong blustery winds.

This year’s Biennale transforms the port city of Walyalup into a vibrant canvas of contemporary art from 13 to 30 November 2025. The opening event marked the beginning of three weekends of bold, site-responsive works —a reflection on refuge, belonging, and transformation.
Most events are free, with a few ticketed experiences. The Biennale culminates in the Azure Closing Party at the P&O Hotel on 30 November.

One of my favourite events 4 years ago was Vespers. It’s on again this Saturday, don’t miss it. Couta boats sailing to music – fantastic.

There is something for everyone as you’ll see when you go to this interactive program!
Locations for seeking SANCTUARY include beaches, tunnels, streets, the Swan River/Derbarl Yerrigan and venues across Fremantle.
Here’s a map showing where to find events and venues.
