Fremantle Shipping News PIVOTS Towards the Theatre

The Shipping News and Artsource are teaming up to bring you a staged reading of a new locally written play featuring two of Australia’s most beloved performers, Peter Rowsthorn and Roz Hammond.

THE PIVOT, by leading film and theatre critic Mark Naglazas, is a two-handed comedy set in the ground-floor foyer of a law firm where Henry and Julia have agreed to meet before going upstairs to sign their divorce papers.

Even though Julia is the one pushing for the divorce she’s late. The lawyers are charging $500 an hour and the clock is running. So Henry is pacing and ranting and pacing.

Julia eventually saunters into the foyer carrying coffee and croissants. In the face of Henry’s blustering Julia flops into the couch and nonchalantly announces she’s changed her mind. She wants back in.

Peter is one of Australia’s most respected comic comedians. He has appeared in many sketch-comedy shows, became part of Australian pop culture history as the long-suffering Brett Craig in KATH & KIM and is a seasoned stage performer, garnering fantastic reviews for his work in Black Swan productions of Oscar Wilde’s THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, David Mamet’s GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS and Neil Simon’s LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR.

Roz has a dazzlingly diverse career on stage and screen. Best known for her work on SHAUN MICALLEF’S MAD AS HELL, in which she gifted the world Jacqui Lambie’s press secretary Dolly Norman, conversative blogger Vomitoria Catchment and ABC shop employee Dianne, Roz has featured in numerous series and movies, most memorably as bridesmaid Cheryl in MURIEL’S WEDDING. She is also celebrated for her work on stage, starring in the Melbourne Theatre Company productions of FEMALE OF THE SPECIES and BLITHE SPIRIT.
