Folk have been asking us what is happening on this site, with the crane work all happening with a great sense of urgency.
Well, the big news is that in a rare, but welcome development, President of Western Australia Roger Cook, acknowledging the strong anti Labor sentiment exhibited around Fremantle in last weekend’s vote count for the seat of Fremantle, has decided to get ahead of the game and express his admiration and love for Freo without waiting to be asked.
By a series of Executive Orders signed this morning the President has rescinded the existing designation of land between The Old Synagogue and Freo Hospital (where the large crane is) as Fremantle District Police Complex and redesignated the site as the Walyalup Bon Scott Live Music and Performance Centre. The President has also directed that a temporary stage, to become permanent in due course and called the John Butler Stage, be erected as soon as possible.
We understand that the construction of the temporary Butler Stage is indeed the work the crane shown in the photograph is currently undertaking. The President hopes that, assuming Simone McGurk is re-elected MLA for Freo, as current counting trends suggest she will be, the first event to be conducted on the John Butler Stage will be the Let’s Celebrate Simone’s Election Victory bash.
We kid you not.
However, to be fair, on further inquiry we were assured that should Kate Hulett, Community Independent, buck the current counting trend and win Fremantle, she will be invited to hold her victory lap on the temporary Butler Stage.
As to just who is managing the event, further inquiries lead us to understand that the WA Electoral Commission, deftly assisted by its partner, Singaporean company PersolKelly, and PersolKelly’s staffing, maintenance and management arm, Programmed, are in charge of the event.
Which of course means it may or may not happen.
Watch this space.
