Sign Up Today for a Sign of Four concert

The Sign of Four Perth and Regional Concert Series is on between 27 September and 4 October somewhere near you!

Sign of Four is a unique string quartet formed in 2022 by Jude Iddison, Shenzo Gregorio, Daniel Drieberg, and Mardae Selepak. Their innovative and intricate interpretations of known and original repertoire explore the sonic possibilities of combining violins, guitar, mandolin, and octave viola with vocal harmonies.

Sign of Four is a string quartet based in Walyalup (Fremantle), the land of the Whadjuk Noongar.

Sign of Four is not constrained by scriptures of genre and collaboratively they draw from classical, folk, jazz, and rock in a seamless flow of musical creativity. With classically trained commitment to sound quality and composition, the quartet are taking audiences on exhilarating journeys from Vivaldi to ACDC, Reinhardt to Bowie, Piazzolla to Sting, and beyond.

Shenzo Gregorio is a peripatetic Australian musician who has been defying gravity and definition for many years. He is internationally recognised and for 26 years he has been commissioned and presented as composer, improviser, and performer on (and sometimes above) stages around the world.

In September Shenzo arrived back in WA after a four-day composition residency at Launceston’s Junction Arts Festival which culminated in a performance with the rising sun.

He has been travelling to WA since 2022 to work with Jude Iddison as her mentor, collaborator and the subject of a PhD exploring violin improvisation. During their time together, and in between Jude’s PhD research, they have composed and performed for Circus WA’s newest production B’spoke and launched this quartet.

Shenzo has also mentored, taught and performed with wunderkind Daniel Drieberg who graduated from WAAPA in 2022 with many awards under his belt. Both are multi-instrumentalists, violin jazz improvisation specialists, and have a penchant for challenging their craft to go further and faster. Daniel has recently returned from a three-month musical enrichment & evolution mission to the US. He spent time with Louis Cato and Gabe Terraciano (Turtle Island String Quartet) in New York. He also got to perform alongside Punch Brothers and The Arcadian Wild – to name just a couple – and was inspired by being in the country of Jazz.

Jude Iddison is currently undertaking a PhD into violin improvisation at WAAPA. Her lifelong fascination and irresistible curiosity with a diverse range of musical styles is highlighted in her sensitive, versatile, and expansive violin playing and eclectic compositions.

Daniel Drieberg is a prize winning WAAPA jazz graduate with exquisite multi-instrumentalist skills on violin, mandolin, and vocals. He combines these with an infectious energy that enlivens his musical collaborators and delights audiences.

Mardae Selepak is a vibrant young classical guitar maestro whose musicality transcends genres. His sublime compositions and vocals bring an added grace and depth to Sign of Four’s arrangements and performances.
