Here at the Shipping News, we are crazy about fine photography.
And here’s an exhibition you won’t want to miss!
It’s the SHOTS PHOTGRAPHIC EXHIBITION at the Moore’s Building Art Gallery, Henry Street, Fremantle between 20 November and 6 December 2020.
Put it in your calendar now!
SHOTS is a Perth photography collective established in 2015 by Rick Bawden, a 42 year veteran of the photographic industry and himself a solo exhibitor.
Rick’s concept was to give photographers the opportunity to exhibit their work, without the significant financing and time consuming burden of mounting a solo exhibition.
The coming exhibition, A Picture Paints a Thousand Words, comprises over 100 stunning images from 30 talented professional and amateur photographers who have won awards in renowned national and international competitions, such as the AIPP Awards, Canadian Geographic, Barcelona’s Pollux Photography Awards, the San Francisco Bay International, Australian Photography, and the Focus Seascape and Landscape Awards.
Once you look at this gallery of a selection of the photographs, you’ll see what we mean!
SHOT’s co‐ordinator, Stanley Aryanto, said,
“We are excited to show our work during these difficult times, and to inspire our audience to see the good that surrounds us particularly during these COVID‐19 times. Visitors have a rare opportunity to experience high quality images from all genres of photography, from landscapes, architecture and nature photography to creative and abstract. While the images on display are diverse, the one thing we all have in common is a passion for the art of photography. We invite everyone to explore the different ways each exhibitor uses photography as the medium through which they communicate their personality and view of the world to tell a story through their images.”
The Cockburn Community Men’s Shed (CCMS) will be building easels for some of the larger pieces. The easels will also be available for sale with proceeds going back to the CCMS.
The exhibition is being sponsored by Perth Web Hosting, Reds Imaging, C.R. Kennedy Imaging, together with Team Digital and Moore and Moore Café.
Some fantastic prizes are on offer for the Peoples’ Choice of best images of the competition, and there is also a prize for the voting public.
For those interested in improving their photography, the well‐known professional photographer, Seng Mah, whose work has featured here on the Shipping News in its Fine Photography department, will be offering photographic workshops at locations around Fremantle.
The organisers are expecting an even higher turnout this year from a public who might be eager for a glimpse of life through the lens of the exhibitors. It is well known that photography is a medium of visual communication with benefits for our well‐being including giving pleasure, stimulating our emotions and helping us to connect to the world.
As the amazing work we have displayed in the Shipping News’ Fine Photography department Has demonstrated, photography, like all art, is a powerful healer and should not be seen as a luxury, but a necessity in our lives. So, get along and heal your soul!
All images on display at the SHOTS exhibition will be available for purchase.
Entry is a gold coin.
Works by the photographers, including images selected for the exhibition, can be seen on their website and Facebook page.
Brilliant!
