CONGRATULATIONS to Fremantle artist Kitty Wallwork (19) who has been awarded the 2026 Arts Scholarship by Soroptimist International Fremantle (SIF).
Kitty is an established artist and works across many mediums through her business KaiArts, using digital and traditional mediums creating detailed digital illustrations and paintings to customised skateboards, clothing, bags and merchandise.
Inspired by Japanese and Chinese culture, Kitty’s winning artwork – Where the Yatu Sleeps – uses symbolism and colour to create a peaceful yet powerful scene.

A Tora (tiger) rests atop a red Torii gate, a traditional Japanese shrine gate symbolising spirituality, protection, and the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds.
Though asleep, Yatu sleeps; its calm yet commanding spirit reflected in its quiet strength and relaxed posture.

The contrast between the bold red gate and the resting figure represents balance between power and peace. The acrylic art piece captures a moment of stillness while expressing serenity, strength, guardianship, and the beauty of eastern cultural influences.
SIF Fremantle representative Di Hooton made the presentation to Kitty.

“I am especially pleased that Kitty exhibited at the Art Gallery of WA in the Year 12 Perspectives; one of the many achievements you have made in your art practice this year,” Di said at the event.
Di said Kitty’s art mentor, Ariel Katzir, described her as an incredibly creative and dedicated young artist who has developed a distinctive artistic style that is full of personality, colour and imagination.
Kitty’s work explores character design, storytelling and illustration. She draws inspiration from anime (hand drawn or computer-generated animation), pop culture and the world around her.
Di extended thanks to the DADAA* team; David Doyle, Chris Williams. Jacqueline, Laura, Shelley and Ariel for assisting in the selection of the 2026 Soroptimist Art Scholarship candidate.
“I would also like to thank members who assisted in the presentation, it has been a wonderful event and we offer our heartfelt congratulations to Kitty from all at DADAA and Soroptimist International Fremantle.”
