Silver Cloud Calls at Fremantle on Her Way to the Kimberley

Silver Cloud, Silversea’s boutique expedition vessel, berthed in Fremantle yesterday, a day ahead of her scheduled northbound departure along Western Australia’s coast.

The 254‑passenger ship is beginning the opening leg of Silversea’s Grand South Pacific Expedition, a months‑long voyage that will eventually carry guests from Fremantle through the Kimberley, across the Pacific and onward to South America. Out of Fremantle, after some passengers have disembarked and others embarked, she will have 221 guests and 232 crew.

We missed her early arrival, but here she is tied up near the Fremantle Passenger Terminal yesterday. And below you’ll see her in all her majesty arriving two years ago.

The ship’s Fremantle call marks the start of a 17‑day itinerary to Darwin, with scheduled visits to the Abrolhos Islands, Shark Bay, Ningaloo, the Montebello Islands, and the Buccaneer Archipelago. Unlike the large cruise ships that periodically dominate the inner harbour, Silver Cloud is built for remote expedition travel, carrying a compact manifest and a fleet of Zodiacs for landings in off‑grid locations.

She was last here just 2 years ago, arriving in the dark, early hours of the morning, as our Shipping & Sailing Correspondent Jean Hudson reported at the time. Quite a cruise ship!

Her arrival adds another chapter to Fremantle’s long tradition of welcoming travellers and ocean‑going wanderers. Silver Cloud is expected to sail later today, at 6 pm, continuing her slow arc north toward one of Australia’s most dramatic coastlines.
