Fremantle Ports advises …
… that North Mole will remain closed to public access following damage sustained during the severe storm event over the WA Day long weekend (Saturday, 30 May to Monday, 1 June 2026).
North Mole was closed for the duration of the storm and subsequent inspections identified damage to the rock wall, pavement and other infrastructure requiring further investigation. Detailed engineering assessments are now underway to determine the full extent of the damage and any associated risks.

At this stage, Fremantle Ports says it is not safe to reopen the area. While North Mole is a valued recreational destination, community safety remains the priority.
Fremantle Ports acknowledges the closure may be disappointing for regular users and the wider community and appreciates the community’s patience while assessments are completed.
At the peak of the storm, significant wave heights reached 9.9 metres and Fremantle experienced a considerable storm surge. The force of the storm displaced large boulders from the rock wall and washed lengths of concrete kerbing across North Mole Drive.
Signage remains in place at the North Mole gate to advise of the closure and associated risks. Updates will be provided as further information becomes available.
