The Unyoung Chronicles Exhibition

24 May 2026 – 3 July 2026 6:30am to 3pm Mon-Sun + 5pm to 9pm Thurs – Mon (closed 3pm – 5pm)

UnYoung Chronicles is a group of artists exhibiting in a café (only people who go to galleries go to galleries) for six weeks (photos, sculptures, oils, acrylic, vox populi) 23rd May to 3rd July. By holding the exhibition where people eat and drink, we hope the theme surrounding customers will inspire conversations about getting older.

Unyoung Chronicles celebrates the richness and diversity of these bonus years, showcasing how individuals are embracing ageing in creative, meaningful, and inclusive ways. Through a multi-faceted initiative, we aim to challenge outdated perceptions of ageing and promote the idea of positive ageing as a time for personal growth, connection, and contribution.

Ochre Paintings

12 June – 12 July 2026

Lorraine Daylight learned her painting skills from senior artists Jack Britten and Hector Jandany, and from her father Gordon Barney. Much of Lorraine’s stories and inspiration comes from her family’s country on Texas Downs Station, on country called Ngarrgooroon. These stories are creation accounts from Ngarranggarni, the Dreaming creation time.

Lorraine also paints Birnoo, on Alice Downs Station, country that belonged to Lorraine’s paternal grandmother. Lorraine was taught to paint this Country by her father, Warmun artist Gordon Barney. Gordon was a skilled stockman, and spent much of his early adulthood mustering cattle through this area. As a result he was familiar with Birnoo and would take his family, including Lorraine, out on to Country during holidays from station work. So Lorraine learned about her father and grandmother’s Country and gradually began to paint it herself. This area is rich in ochre, so these trips could double as ochre collection trips, returning to Warmun with a fresh connection to Country and a renewed batch of ochre. The exhibition of Lorraine Daylight paintings is presented in association with Warmun Art Centre and all works are open to view at Japingka Gallery from 12 June – 12 July 2026.

Also featured at the gallery are paintings by senior artists of the East Kimberley including Freddie Timms, Queenie McKenzie, Jack Britten, Rover Thomas, Gordon Barney and Hector Jandanay.

ECHOES AND FRAGMENTS
JMGA WA Members Exhibition 2026

17 – 28 June 2026

Opening Night: Wednesday 17 June 2026, 6pm
Exhibition Dates: Thursday 18 June – Sunday 28 June 2026

Gallery Hours: 10am – 4pm daily

The Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia WA (JMGA WA) presents Echoes and Fragments, a contemporary jewellery and object exhibition bringing together works by 28 artists from across Western Australia and beyond.

Held at Earlywork Gallery in South Fremantle from 17–28 June, the exhibition explores how memory, heritage and personal narrative are carried through material and form. Through jewellery, wearable works and sculptural objects, artists respond to themes of identity, place, environment and human connection.

This is the first time JMGA WA has exhibited at Earlywork Gallery, bringing together an exciting cross-section of practices ranging from emerging makers and students to established and internationally recognised contemporary jewellers.

Artist’s work across a diverse range of materials including precious metals, gemstones, enamel, found objects, textiles, recycled materials and driftwood.

Featured artists include Geraldton-based artist Josaphine Mascaro, whose work reflects on the overlooked histories of women in the Pilbara, Kensington contemporary jeweller Robin Wells, whose wearable work responds to the fragmentation of Banksia woodlands, and Sarah Elson (image above) works from her studio in Coolbellup, creating cast metal works exploring transformation and resilience through repurposed materials.

Among the 28 artists involved, there are a number from the Fremantle area: Tineke Van der Eecken and Kate Sale are in Fremantle, Jane McIntyre in Hamilton Hill, Sam Farmer in Whitegum Valley as well as Sarah Elson in Coolbellup.

The exhibition also includes sponsored awards recognising conceptual development, technical excellence, innovative use of materials and a People’s Choice Award.

Season Songbirds

Sunday 28 June 3pm – 6:30pm

Season Songbirds is a gig series designed to showcase and support female creatives from Western Australia. Inspired by the Nashville Bluebird Café “songwriters in the round” format, each event features four female singer-songwriters sharing original songs and the stories behind them in an intimate, acoustic, seated setting.

Each event also features one female visual artist, who designs the event poster and is highlighted during the gig.

The series has a strong community focus. Across all events, attendees are encouraged to donate to a selected women-focused organisation, and 10% of proceeds from each gig are allocated to this fundraising effort.

Season Songbirds – Winter edition featuring:

Georgina Dacheff is an indie-folk musician and singer-songwriter from Perth, Western Australia. Her work is grounded in lived experience, with songwriting that explores the journey of returning to inner balance.

Women are cyclical by nature – our bodies, emotions, and energies ebb and flow in rhythms that deserve to be honoured and heard, not suppressed.

Storytellers Residency: A Story That Could Be True

Thursday 30 July 6pm – 9pm

Oral Storytelling at Moore and Moore Cafe

Welcome to A Story That Could Be True, as we continue the journey, bringing the art of traditional oral storytelling to a contemporary audience.

In residency this month Leon Cossar joins us from Victoria, bringing the story of Ivan and The Grey Wolf.

An old idea suggests that in times of trouble the directives needed to find a genuine way forward can’t be found at the centre, because the centre can’t be located.

Myth points to the hero/heroine as the energy that journeys out to the far edge and returns with the regenerative principle that can revivify and reestablish the centre.

We might be living in such times…

So let’s turn to a Russian folktale that speaks to us in an old dream language: of golden apples, firebirds, grey wolves, horses with golden manes and the woman of soul at the edge of the world.

It’s a story of loss, adventure, sacrifice, trickery, wonder, betrayal and love. It’s a story that could be true…

About the Storyteller:

Leon Cossar M.A is an Australian poet, mythologist, storyteller, and leading teacher in the field of rites of passage. His work centres around the perennial question that has troubled cultures across time: What to do with the men?

Bringing a multi-disciplinary approach – ranging from anthropology, philosophy, mythology, and history – Leonexplores the question in a manner that is simultaneously captivating and provocative.

Through speaking engagements, online and in-person courses, Leon seeks to educate individuals, communities, and organisations about the importance of meaningful, timely and appropriate rites of passage for boys and men.
