Violins, Accordian, Dancers – Don’t Miss The Next FCO Concert!

Don’t miss a sobbing solo violin when Fremantle Chamber Orchestra, Kashtany Duo & Ukrainian Roztiazhka Cossack Dancers perform in Freo on Saturday, 14 March 2026 at 3 pm and in Perth the next day

Locatelli’s Il pianto d’Arianna (the weeping of Ariadne) opens the concert using the fragment of a lost Monteverdi opera telling of Theseus’s abandonment of Ariadne. A solo violin sobs on Ariadne’s behalf.  The final Largo, strewn with silences, eventually twists into the hopeful smile of a major key.

Mozart and Beethoven contemporary Leopold Koželuch’s Symphony in G Minor then follows. It’s one of his most dramatic and mature symphonies, the only one in a minor key, showcasing his use of contrast and expressive intensity.

Paul Wright

After the interval virtuoso Kashtany Duo, Paul Wright (violin) and Myroslav Gutej (accordion), and the Roztiazhka Ukrainian Cossack Dancers in their traditional costumes join FCO in fiery Hungarian, Romanian, Ukrainian Jewish, Moldovan and Gypsy dances.

Myroslav Gutej

This is the 1st collaboration of the Kashtany Duo, Roztiazhka Ukrainian Cossack Dancers and Fremantle Chamber Orchestra’s in the FCO’s 21-year history.
