The Wednesday Poem

Fremantle Shipping News is pleased to bring you The Wednesday Poem.

In this feature we post poems by Freo and Freo-connected poets and those who may not call themselves poets but love writing poetry or having a go!

Today, we are pleased to bring you  Rain by Jo-Ann Whalley.

Rain Jo-Ann Whalley

Winter I love
how those implacable blue sky Autumn days
with their air too thin for comfort
brass monkey nights
and, hello…still having to water the pot plants
afternoons
give way to dove grey clouds
that puff their chests
and bob the world to silver soft fecundity
Rain sniggers from my gutters
fondles the woodpile and generally
misbehaves
frottaging guests and
running uninvited down cleavages
And amidst all this damp mayhem
my unruly face turns upwards
to welcome unashamedly
with lick and tongue
this bold visitor
