After The Game With Snaps Truly – Rd 8 2025 V St Kilda

Gutless.

Witless.

Hopeless.

Listless.

I’m wondering if the editor of The Fremantle Shipping News will let me leave it at that?

What else is there to say?

Nothing really.

Garry Lyon called it “embarrassing” and “meek.” And I winced at that terrible, terrible truth.

Embarrassing.

Meek.

With just two goals to half time … don’t get excited, there would only be another three after it …

Justin Longmuir came down to the bench and sat there, blank, and unresponsive.

Ross Lyon had stolen his play lunch, said nasty things about his Mum and pulled his daks down in front of the entire class. And in the white-hot glare of the cameras and the entire Friday night AFL community, he could only stare back, unblinking and wait for the school nurse to call a responsible adult to take him home and put him to bed.

Humiliated.

I barely watched the last quarter. I kept starting sentences with “Surely we’ll …” or “We have to show something …”.

But we didn’t.

We just got worse.

The siren mercifully brought the game to an end. Freo received a 61-point shellacking.

And I imagine … at this point I turned it off … that some poor sap in a Freo jumper had to step forward and explain what had gone so horribly wrong. And I can see him now, shaking his head in disbelief and saying “That’s not us. That’s not us”.

But the truth is young fella, it is.

We’ve seen it all before.

There will of course be furious calls to sack the coach and probably all the players. Which is strategically impossible, but enormously tempting at times like these, when anger is red hot, critical thinking is dubious at best and all hope seems lost.

Maybe they should pick Will Brodie next week. Or not play at all. Right now, I don’t care who shows up against Collingwood.

Gutless.

Witless.

Hopeless.

Listless.

I’m off to the pub and if you see me, please don’t come and say hello.

Yours Truly,

Snaps Truly.
