The Wednesday Poem

Fremantle Shipping News is pleased to bring you The Wednesday Poem.

In this feature we bring you poems by Freo and Freo-connected poets and those who may not call themselves poets but love writing poetry or having a go!

Today, we are pleased to bring you Swallows by Linda Anderson.

Swallows

On an island in the lake, ibis flap on bushes

like white laundry.

Magnolias cup their palms to hold the day,

blushed petals smudged to cream.

Slashed by sun, a flash of swallows darts and folds,

a silver shoal, glinting as it turns,

scintillating copper, golden, gilt

as molten sun burns twilight blue.

Earthbounds too catch fire,

fly and offer petals to the dawn,

burst into radiance of light,

spiral into sky and higher.

Linda Anderson started writing poetry again after a break of many years. Linda attends Perth Poetry Club which is where she heard about OOTA.
