The Wednesday Poem

Fremantle Shipping News is pleased to introduce a new feature, The Wednesday Poem.

We look forward to bringing you poems by Freo amd Freo-connected poets and those who may not say they are poets but love writing poetry!

In this first posting of our new feature, we are pleased to bring you Kim Roberts’ My View.

My View

I love
just gazing softly
at the front courtyard
garden.

Where, suddenly it seems
the canopy of glory vines now
provide
a dappled shade.

And
the blooms of the swamp lillies
reach skyward
on their rapidly growing stems
until suddenly
they burst
into white blossoms reminiscent
of an exploding firework.

Butterflies drift,
honeyeaters and wagtails
drink, dip and bathe in
the bird bath.
Two honeyeaters flit to their
hidden nest
amongst the vine leaves.

Red, pink and white pots of
petunias
splash colours amidst the
green,
so many shades.

Past our front wall
the gums
scent
comes on the breeze
and I’m reminded that soon the
summer Easterlies will
shortly bring their
scorching breath.

I never
tire of this space, this view
ever changing
in every precious
moment.
