Handel, Bach & Mahler come to St Pat’s

On 24 March, in St Patrick’s Basilica, Adelaide Street, Fremantle, starting at 2.30 pm, Fremantle Chamber Orchestra, conducted by the amazing John Keene, will present a most beautiful and exciting program. You won’t want to miss it.

Handel’s festive Concerto Grosso Op 6 No 12 opens the concert.

Then follows Bach’s much-loved Concerto for 2 Violins which has at its heart the exquisite Adagio, a love song of the 2 violins intertwined in perfect equality featuring fabulous sisters Rebecca Glorie and Andrea Mendham as soloists.

After the interval, Gustav Mahler’s 4th Symphony (1st and 3rd movements arranged for chamber orchestra – our Editor’s favourites) is late romanticism at its best, the last breath of beautiful, moving lush melodies.

By the way, someone, somewhere wrote of Mahler that his dying words were ‘Mozart’!

If you can’t make the Freo performance of the concert in the Sunday, you might be able to get to the Saturday performance in Churchlands. (We like the ‘church’ theme!)
