After a keenly contested Mayoral election, a good voter turnout, and then a delayed and long count ending around 10 pm on Saturday night, 16 October 2021, Hannah Fitzhardinge was the runaway winner of the 5-way contest for Fremantle’s next Mayor following the retirement from local government politics of long serving Mayor Dr Brad Pettitt.
Ms Fitzhardinge convincingly saw off her main challengers Marija Vujcic and Adele Carles, winning 46.14% of the vote – a landslide in a first past the post voting system. She won every Ward count by a strong margin.
Here’s the WA Electoral Commission’s formal vote count. Ward by Ward.
If you haven’t already heard Hannah speak about her local government motivations and ambitions then you should tune in to our earlier podcast interviews with her.
Here’s the podcast from 2020 when Hannah was the simple member of Council for Beaconsfield Ward.
And here’s our recent podcast with Hannah as a Mayoral candidate.
We will look forward to bringing you a further podcast interview with our new Mayor before long.
