Breaking news from the Freo waterfront. Eddie the Octopus has gone AWOL
The bronze sculpture of Eddie the Octopus by acclaimed Freo sculptor Greg James, that usually observes goings-on outside Kailis’ Fishmarket Cafe on Fremantle’s Fishing Boat Harbour, appears to have been sawn off and made off with – it’s gone!
Eagle-eyed – or is that Octopus-eyed? – Tina Horton sensed the heist when she was faced with this scene, which she quickly snapped as evidence.

And John Hartley has sent in this pic to remind us that Eddie the Octopus was there until, well, pretty much just now.

As John says, given what happened to Greg James’ Bella the bench-sitter, who disappeared in 2019, we should fear the worst!
Kailis’ office has confirmed with FSN that Eddie has indeed disappeared and hasn’t just been taken down for maintenance or polishing. Obviously something fishy about it.
It seems Eddie was removed overnight, Thursday night.
The police are aware.
First The Louvre, now Fishing Boat Harbour.
If anyone knows anything, do let us know too.
