Throttle Up for Men’s Health

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride 2025 concluded in front of the Maritime Museum at Victoria Quay on Sunday 18 May.

Four hundred and seventy six well-dressed men, a couple of bikie chicks, and a few fur babies rode from Elizabeth Quay, Perth to Fremantle to raise funds for men’s health and prostate cancer. They roared through Fremantle and parked up in front of the Maritime Museum. David and his dog Shanti created quite a stir. Shanti looked super-cool in a sidecar wearing goggles, a tweed cap and cape and enjoyed having their photo taken.

The DGR was founded in Sydney, Australia, by Mark Hawwa, inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic motorcycle in his finest suit. What began as a themed ride has become a global movement, connecting niche motorcycle communities to support the men in our lives.

The 2025 DGR took place on Sunday in over 1000 cities. It is now a global charity motorcycle event that combines classic and vintage-styled motorcycles with dapper attire to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, particularly focusing on prostate cancer and mental health initiatives in partnership with Movember.

There were bikes galore, parked in front of the museum and along Slip Street. Gleaming, brightly coloured Café Racers – lightweight and minimalistic, Triumph Thruxtons and Royal Enfields. Older vintage bikes with leather trims and vintage inspiration. Then there were, Scramblers, Choppers, a Harley or two and so many others.

DGR emphasizes style and the classic aesthetic. Dressing dapper is just as important as riding the right bike. The men all scrubbed up well, in 1920s to 1950’s inspired menswear. There were lots of tweed suits and blazers, waistcoats, white button-up, pinstripe and pastel shirts. Linen suits. Trench coats. Oxford brogues, leather gloves, bow ties, pocket squares and flat caps to complete the look.

This was a fun event, with Live Music by Kick Back Duo. Don’t miss it next year.
