Dear Editor.
Building a new harbour is environmentally and economically unsustainable.
Cockburn Sound is where the fish grow that our growing population will need.
There will be destruction of the seabed by dredging, more chemicals in the water from cleaning ship’s hulls, drilling into the sea floor for the placement of pylons and other accidental pollution. These sounds and pollution will affect the sonar of the dolphins and the growth of the fish populations.
Having talked to Westport supporters I’m told that the reason they want to move to Kwinana is that the rail system can’t take any more containers and that this is because it goes past residents in the West End. A railway bridge over the lot would solve that and at a fraction of the cost of the proposed project.
Here’s what the No New Outer Harbour in Kwinana group say on their Facebook site –
The ‘advisers’ to the State Government need to listen to the facts. It really distresses me to see this lack of foresight.
