The Empress Joséphine's Garden Experience

Making its global debut at Fremantle’s WA Maritime Museum, Empress Joséphine’s Garden is a modern, immersive large-screen digital experience exploring the little-known story of Empress Joséphine Bonaparte’s garden in Paris.

Fremantle Shipping News was very pleased to attend the launch of the experience last night, Thursday night and enjoyed a sneak preview of what’s in store. We loved it and are sure you will too. It opens Saturday, 31 August, and is a ticketed event. All up the audio/visual experience, which is 360 degrees in the main room, will take you about 45 minutes.

Through the experience you will discover how the Garden was filled with flora and fauna from around the globe including black swans, kangaroos, emus, and hundreds of exotic plants from Western Australia.

Knitting together a shared history between France and Australia, the experience allows you to explore themes of power, wealth, and the excitement of new scientific discoveries in the 19th century, all through the eyes of socialite, amateur botanist, and Empress of France – Joséphine Bonaparte.

Joséphine Bonaparte was, of course, married to Napoleon, he of the black felt bicorn hat, until he had their marriage annulled because she failed to produce an heir.

All of which gets one thinking about an event described as an experience. There was, of course, The Jimmy Hendrix Experience. Different for sure, but then again, in its own way, maybe not!
