The development application of Main Roads WA to replace the Old Fremantle Traffic Bridge with a new bridge was approved by the Western Australian Planning Commission on 2 May 2024.
As you can sort of see from this artist’s impression of the new bridge, it includes four lanes for vehicle traffic, a principal shared path, pedestrian footpath and public realm improvements at an estimated value of $280m.
If you’d like to learn some of the backstory to the new bridge and the unhappiness on losing the old one, look here.
