To reflect the 2024 theme of ‘Sea Spoils’, this year’s Ramble will start at 5pm from Bathers Beach and wend its way to the Masked Carnevale Party at Clancy’s Fish Pub.

Look out for recycled sea spoils, whales, mermaids, rising sea levels, Vikings, eco-pirates and, of course, this year’s mystery King of Carnevale (an absurd figure chosen each year to preside over the Carnevale festivities).

Carnevale revellers at the Clancy’s Masked Carnevale Party will first be charmed by
songstresses Cat Meowsic and Antonietta ‘Etta’ D’Elia, before boogying to the high energy of Rumskull and Junkadelic, then finishing the night off with hot funk from Legitimate
Businessmen’s Club

Although it was previously thought that only male public figures like Donald Trump, Wilson
Tuckey, Alan Jones, Clive Palmer, Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Twiggy Forrest and the
former Mayor of the City of Cockburn Stephen Lee were capable of meeting the Fremantle
Carnevale Authority
’s stringent silliness requirements to qualify as King of Carnevale, a newly introduced Carnevale gender equity policy saw Woodside CEO ‘Methane Meg’ O’Neill presiding over festivities as Fremantle Queen of Carnevale in 2023.

Carnevale enthusiasts are urged to maximise their Carnevale pleasure by disguising
themselves in their finest Carnevale mask and costume in order to be eligible for the 2024 Freo Carnevale costume prizes; like last year, they will have an opportunity to prepare by attending the Mask, Costume and Effigy WorkshopSaturday 3 February facilitated by professional artists at the Fibonacci Centre, 19 Blinco Street, Fremantle.

Sally Knowles and Stephen Bennetts, the powerhouse duo behind Freo Carnevale, kindly met with Michael Barker, our Editor, to make a podcast, that you’ll find below, discussing Freo Carnivale 2024 and their recent attendance at Carnevale Conference in Ghana. By the way, if you missed our earlier podcast with Sally amd Stephen about the concept of Carnivale, here it is again!
