WA Health have published the following summary on the incidence of Covid for the week 15 to 21 January 2024 (inclusive) reporting there were:
• 382 COVID-19 cases reported
• 46 new hospital admissions and 1 admission into an intensive care unit
• 16 deaths
• 2884 COVID-19 PCR tests conducted
In this reporting period, case numbers decreased by 28.1% compared to the previous week.
The number of PCR tests decreased by 7.3% compared to the previous week, with a 7-day average positivity rate of 8.1%.
The moving seven-day average case rate per 100,000 population increased in the Goldfields, Great Southern, and Midwest regions, and decreased in the Perth Metropolitan, Kimberley, Pilbara, Wheatbelt, and South West regions. The seven-day average case rate for the Perth metropolitan area (2.1 cases/100,000 population) was slightly higher than the non-metropolitan regions combined (1.7 cases/100,000 population).
The seven-day average age-specific rate decreased in all age groups. The highest rate was in the 70+ years age group (7.6 cases/100,000 population), and the lowest rate in the 10 – 19 years age groups (0.6 case/100,000 population).
The 7-day average of currently hospitalised cases decreased by 8.6% from 175 last week to 160 in this reporting period, and intensive care unit cases increased from 4 the previous period to 6 this period. New hospital admissions related to COVID-19 decreased from 55 in the previous period to 46 this period, and direct intensive care unit admissions decreased with 1 this reporting period.
Deaths increased in this latest reporting period with 16 deaths reported compared to 11 deaths in the previous week.
In this reporting period, 34 cases were reported in the Aboriginal population, a slight decrease compared to the previous period. Case rates in the Aboriginal population were higher than the non-Aboriginal population, with a 7-day average rate ratio of 2.4 this reporting week. There was 1 death reported in the
Aboriginal population in this latest reporting period.
