Impact100 Fremantle picks up pace – Join today!

In this article, Stu MacLeod, Executive Officer at Fremantle Foundation and Impact100 Fremantle, reports on an 11 Year Donor and an amazing Impact100 Fremantle Winner of the $100,000 grant.

It’s moments like these where I can see the impact of Fremantle Shipping News in real time.

In the five days since publishing an article on Impact100 Fremantle, I have had word that two more donors have come on board, raising the total to $64,120. Only 36 more donors to go to hit our 100 donor target for 2024!

We have many great return donors, but are so very pleased when new donors join our Impact100 Fremantle community.

In this report, I am pleased to highlight an 11 Year Donor and one of the Freo connected charitable organisations previously chosen as the Winner of the Impact100 Fremantle $100,000 grant.

AN 11 YEAR DONOR

The Impact100 Fremantle community of donors is made up of people from all walks of life, all joining together to make a shared difference.

This month, I am delighted to introduce you to Dr Brad Pettit MLC, the Greens MLC in the WA State Parliament and a former Mayor of Fremantle.

Brad is an 11 year donor, someone who has been with Impact100 Fremantle from the very start in 2013.

We reached out to Brad to find out a little bit about his connection to Fremantle, what drew him to join Impact100 Fremantle, and for his reflections on his experience as a donor thus far. Here’s what he told us.

I have spent almost all my adult life in Fremantle. For the few years I lived away I missed the place – deeply.

Why? Freo is more than a place, it is a community that cares and connects.

When I was Mayor I was so pleased to see the Fremantle Foundation kick off Impact100 Fremantle. It was the perfect way for the greater Fremantle community to actively engage with others to make our place better by supporting organisations doing good things in and around Fremantle.

Each year the choice is hard as there’s always more than one group that deserves to win. But the power of combined impact and the process that enables a deeper connection and understanding of our community is one of the best.

I look forward to what changes we make together in the years ahead.

A WINNER’S PROFILE

Our Impact100 Fremantle winner for 2020 was the Australian Dental Health Foundation.

ADHF in WA coordinates the delivery of pro bono dental treatment to disadvantaged members of the community. Their mandate is to provide free dental treatment to the homeless, victims of domestic violence or those who have suffered disadvantage to allow these people an opportunity to get their lives back on track.

The $100,000 Impact100 Fremantle grant ensured that the work of the ADHF, in collaboration with St Patrick’s Oral Health Clinic, increased in scope, by hiring a Dental Nurse Manager and engaging the services of a Dental Hygienist/Therapist on days when no volunteer dentists are available.

St Patricks Oral Health Clinic, 2020

In 2019, St Pat’s Oral Health Clinic reported –
* Volunteer Dentists: 17
* Patients Seen: 360 (266 male, 194 female)
* New Patients: 174
* Patients on Waiting List: 129
* Value of Treatments: $155,300

Since our funding in 2020, and following the effects of COVID on our homeless population, in 2023, St Pat’s Oral Health Clinic reported –
– Volunteer Dentists: 21
– Patients Seen: 623 (307 male, 316 female)
– New Patients: 98
– Patients on Waiting List: 296
– Value of Treatments: $191,477

This is yet another example of how crucial community philanthropy is, and the power and impact your donations can have on our disadvantaged populations.

Huge thanks to St Pat’s and the incredible work they do, as well as The Australian Dental Foundation and the volunteer dentists working alongside them.
