Other Freo Harbour Happenings along Capo D’Orlando Drive

Work will begin by early next year on a $6.2 million project to reclaim land at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour to deliver improved services and pedestrian access in the southern part of the facility.

The harbour manager, the Department of Transport, has awarded a contract to Western Australian based and owned company Advanteering for the works that will also allow for the future construction of a penholder facility at the harbour. Advanteering have a number of local marine projects to their credit, including in North Fremantle at the Water Police complex.

The company’s contract will see the existing southern land backed wharf along Capo D’Orlando Drive extended to create a new platform for the future building, which will include penholder bathrooms, laundry facilities and new public toilets.

The works will also deliver pedestrian improvements with a new dedicated pedestrian path along Capo D’Orlando Drive, services and lighting upgrades and landscaping to improve public amenity and increase safety for users and visitors to the harbour.

Local Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk said –

“It’s fantastic to see continued investment into the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, which remains an important tourist attraction for our community and our State.

“The investment we’re making to improve facilities will ensure the harbour remains an attractive option for boaties, including those wanting to access Rottnest Island.”

This project adds to the State Government’s planned investment at the iconic location with the multimillion-dollar replacement of the nearby Jetty 3 which started earlier this year and the planned $5.9 million electrical upgrade at the harbour announced as part of the WA Recovery Plan in 2020.

In July, the Government also released its draft master plan for the future development of the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour and the adjoining Challenger and Success Harbours.
